Happiness Explained with Balloons
Once during a seminar with 50 people the speaker proposed to do an activity – he then proceeded to give each member a balloon and asked to write their name on it. Afterwards all the balloons were collected and placed in another room.
Now the participants were asked to go in the room filled with balloons and find a balloon with their name on it within 5 minutes. It was a complete chaos – people were running, pushing, looking for their balloon. At the end of five minutes no one was able to and their balloon.
Then the speaker proposed that everyone goes in randomly picks a balloon and gives it to the person whose name was written on it. Within minutes everyone had their balloons.
The speaker then said: „Exactly this is happening in our lives. Everyone is frantically looking for happiness all around, not knowing where it is.”
The morale of the story is that our happiness lies in the happiness of other people – give them their happiness and you will get your own happiness.
